It might seem unthinkable today but there were very real plans to move Australian football away from its spiritual home at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and out into the distant suburb of Mulgrave. I witness , nearly accident happen between a car from centre road going to Prince hwy and a car from police road straight to Springvale road. And also nealry happen to me and my husband when we drove from center road. Not long after that i heard in news accident happen and life lost that day. 😢 Its is very complicated intersection specially if the driver not get use to it. Overpass on Prince hwy inbound and outbound will be great idea.

    Sharath's video looked into public transport for major shopping malls. But which city provides the better public transport access to major hospitals and universities? Which hospitals or university campuses have the best and worse public transport access in each city? Hospitals are major employers often distant from CBDs that need to be staffed 24 hours a day and accommodate large numbers of patients and visitors. Universities have huge student numbers and require a decent sized workforce. They also accommodate visitors, guest lecturers and research participants. Some hospitals and universities have reasonable public transport access. Others are difficult and parking is a challenge. Interested in thoughts on this and ways this could be improved

    I wouldn't say dangerous lol. I've gone down that road for over 20 years to get to work and family. Never seen an accident. It is a clusterf of an intersection but the lights handle the traffic well.

    I drive through this intersection twice a day!! I drive from Centre Road through to Police Road in the mornings, and back again in the afternoons I've NEVER seen an accident ... and I am constantly amazed at how quickly I get through it even if I have to stop for an orange/red light!!! Whoever programmed the lights is a genius!!!

    Melbourne has better public transport to sporting/entertainment precincts. The MCG can be accessed via 6 direct lines and two stations as well as several tram stops. Sydney olympic park (currently) only has one line from the south and one station. Moore Park on the far east of Sydney only has light rail access.

    The Federal Coffee Palace WOW what a grand building & to think this was demolished. Surely it could have been repurposed. I love those old grand buildings what a treat it would be to enjoy coffee in that setting today. Even if we wanted to im not sure we could build it as beautifully today! Seems our buildings have lost their granduer & elegance!

    I love roundabouts as they are safer because nobody can blow through a roundabout therefore crashes occur at much lower speeds and traffic flow tends to be continuous but negotiating a roundabout is way beyond the skill level of the average Victorian motorist due to the rarity of this kind of intersection with road authorities removing them at a time that many overseas countries are installing roundabouts as they contribute to better fuel efficiency and reduction in serious accidents - bring back roundabouts in Victoria

    I always thought of this as a food court rather than a shopping complex and its had a bit of an identity crisis in recent decades, redevelopment in this case will obviously mean a big emphasis on appartments, maybe not such a bad thing in this case.

    I miss Arctic Park as we used to call it because the wind would blast around the stands in Winter. So many weekends were spent there cheering on the mighty Hawks in the 80's and 90's then playing kick to kick in the car park waiting for traffic to leave so we could get out of the car park. I loved that ground so much. Breaks my heart to see all those houses and apartments built around it now. 😢

    I used to live on Lebanon Cres growing up, just behind the John Alisson Monkhouse that was on the corner of Police Road and Springvale Road before being demolished, now the site of a set of ugly apartments. Frequently we would hear the crashes on that intersection as kids and run to have a look. As a grown-up I still try and avoid going through it now because l find it so confusing and stressful. Horrible intersection!!!

    Over in Templestowe along Fitzsimons lane Vicroads removed 2 huge roundabouts after years of re engineering and adding traffic lights & methods decided in the end to completely remove the roundabouts and re designed with traffic lights and extra lanes. Widening & removing age old trees some people weren’t happy with the project. Another massive roundabout was removed in mill park /lalor dalton rd and traffic lights installed. Don’t think a roundabout is the answer

  • @DanFrederiksen
    @DanFrederiksen 9 днів тому

    That does seem like a mess. classic mistake to think that by making a junction bigger it can handle more but it just means it's red for longer. Use 3D. over and under and maybe not everything needs to join at exactly the same place. 4 lanes might be able to handle more than 6 lanes if there are no traffic lights constantly blocking everything. Roundabouts also works sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised if a simple 2 lane roundabout could handle all that. Quite the simplification

    Congratulations on your milestone. Uhm.. we might not *need* tram conductors, but i feel we do need at least one staff member on each team. For security at a bare minimum. Radio connect to HQ or police at all times. How many times have unrurly passengers gotten away with reckless abandoned, bc the driver can't see or stop or do anything immediately. Also a member of staff would easily stop fare evasion, that is rampant out there.

      @@philipmallis And on the Glenelg tramline in Adelaide, they stop on request at some stops but not others. Where they stop on request, there are these announcements: To stop at ______ stop __ please request now. The say 'The next stop is...' if it is a standard stop. Perhaps we should do this in Melbourne rather than stopping on request at stops busy enough for requesting them to feel pointless. Request stopping does not need to be done full time. That said, all stops on the Gold Coast and Canberra light rail have quite long stop spacing and their stops all seem to be busy enough to require all trams to stop at all of them.

    Pretty sure it goes up behind Zone 20 … long ago I got a V-Line service from Batemans Bay, and the little display near the driver said 28 or 29 (I can check my notes if you’re interested). It was part of a trip I did from Sydney to Melbourne via the coast, but I couldn’t QUITE do it with public transport 100%. Not that Victoria didn’t carry MORE than its fair share here, but there was a gap between Nowra and Batemans Bay. I could have used entirely CountryLink and V-Link if I went via Canberra and Bombala, which is the traditional way to the far south coast of NSW (Eden, Bega, etc). But if I did it again I would look into the regional buses, particularly since Opal made buses a lot easier for anything slightly beyond the inner west or Strathfield haha! (Context: Government bus/train tickets pre-Opal only worked for the bus regions that were historically part of the Sydney tram footprint, give or take). The actual limit of the Opal network is actually something of a mystery, even to a big nerd like me that holds the record for the furthest travelled in one day (for free … but let’s be honest, it’s probably a record for paid, too).
